Clinics and healthcare facilities are one of the core operating sectors in 2020 which faced uncontrolled speeding of airborne infections during Covid-19 pandemic. Covid-19 virus which is known with coronavirus was first seen in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. In Egypt, the first case of COVID-19 was reported in February 2020 in Luxor and by March 2020, the World Health Organization had officially declared COVID-19 a worldwide pandemic, In March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the hospitals. Clinics and healthcare facilities all over the world are suffering from speeding COVID-19 among the hospital’s medical staff. During this period, people with different illnesses couldn’t go to clinics and hospitals to take their treatments. Moreover, many medical team members lost their lives all over the world after being infected from their hospitals, clinics and healthcare facilities. In 31 July 2020, the number of confirmed cases globally reached 17, 106 007 while 668 910 deaths.
Coronavirus is a severe, acute respiratory syndrome. The most common patient symptoms range from high fevers, dry coughs and fatigue, more severe symptoms include shortness of breath, difficulty breathing and chest pain (WHO, 2020).
COVID-19 can be transmitted through physical contact, droplet transmission and airborne transmission where the virus’s particles can remain suspended in the air for several hours according to the Centre for Disease Control (Hu et al, 2020)
The CDC has a series of guidelines on safety when in an area with possible widespread COVID-19 transmission. These areas include hospitals, emergency care units and clinics as these are the places where COVID-19 patients are most likely to frequent. The guidelines recommend three main objectives. Firstly, the use of open-air spaces in preference to closed spaces. Secondly, physical distancing of at least 6 feet (approximately 1.8m) between people. Lastly, spending shorter times in high-risk areas and around other people.
The aim of this projects is derived by searching for a method to eliminate the spread of airborne virus inside the clinics and medical facilities and to minimize its negative effects. Applying one way circulation is a well-known effective solution to reduce the human contacts and infection spread.
Moreover, combining both technology and aesthetic architectural design were the main scope of this project. These took place by joining between new innovative technologies such as (green air conditioner system, cold water tubes, thermal cameras and air filters) and imbed it with the architectural form of one way circulation building. In addition, to the Timbe wood screen facades which combine between aesthetic appearance and provide natural cross ventilation to the indoor space.
Modern style was used to design the form of the project. The colours used in this project are a mixture of white and brown, theses colours never goes out of fashion. White colour was chosen because it represents the clearness, freshness and purity which give hope for patients and sick people, while the brown colour represents the nature as well as the stability, reliability and dependability.
